Once you know when to arrive at security, you still have to get from the car park, station, or drop-off point to the terminal. That last leg adds anywhere from a few minutes on foot to 20 or 30 minutes if you use the shuttle. Factor it into your plan on top of the live arrive-by estimate so you are not caught out.
Here is roughly how long each option takes to reach Luton's single terminal, and what to watch for. Prices and times change, so treat these as a planning guide and confirm on the official airport website before you travel.
Parking, closest to furthest
Terminal Car Park 1 and 2 (walk)
The terminal car parks are the closest. Car Park 1 is about a 4 to 5 minute walk over a direct footbridge; Car Park 2 is about a 5 minute walk through a pedestrian tunnel. These are the most convenient and usually the priciest, with no shuttle to wait for.
Mid Stay (walk, no shuttle)
Despite the name, Mid Stay is a walk of about 10 minutes to the terminal, not a shuttle. Allow for a slight incline on the way back if you park towards the rear.
Long Stay (free shuttle bus)
Long Stay is the budget option and the only car park served by a bus. A free 24/7 shuttle runs from Bus Bay B roughly every 20 minutes and takes about 10 minutes to the terminal. Realistically allow 20 to 30 minutes in total once you have parked, loaded bags, and waited for the next bus.
Dropping off
The drop-off zone is about a 5 minute walk from the terminal, but it is no longer free. Expect to pay around £7 for up to 10 minutes, then about £1 per minute up to a 30 minute maximum. It is barrier-free and cashless (cameras read your plate), so pay online promptly afterwards to avoid a penalty. If you want to avoid the charge, Long Stay currently gives a short free window and doubles as a no-cost drop-off, at the cost of the shuttle wait.
By train: the Luton DART
If you arrive by rail into Luton Airport Parkway, the Luton DART people-mover connects the station to the terminal in under 4 minutes. It runs frequently, roughly every 4 minutes at peak and every 8 off-peak. An adult single is about £4.90, and it is included free if your train ticket is booked all the way to “Luton Airport”. Leave a little extra for the platform transfer and any queue.
By coach or bus
National Express, Green Line, and other coaches set down at the terminal interchange, a short signposted walk of a few minutes into departures.
